What is a Sports Graphics Production Technician at SMT?

Are you a sports fan? Do you have experience working with broadcasts, production graphics or working within software to help bring functionable visuals to life? Do you enjoy knowing the “why” and “how” that makes applications work? SGPTs work within SMT’s Technology Services department to supports product management through innovative design and presentation of cutting-edge user interfaces for integration into new applications.

This opportunity requires an exceptional attention to detail, creativity and problem solving, a collaborative mindset and is perfect for someone who thrives meeting deadline driven goals.

Graphic design experience is NOT required for this position.

What is Your Daily Impact at SMT?

As a SGPT, you will collaborate with other departments as a product expert while new applications are evaluated. Your responsibilities would include creating robust, modular, and cleanly interfaced graphics packages for broadcast usage, performing thorough testing of graphics, and communicating effectively with production Quality Assurance (QA) testers.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Working with designers and managers to analyze and execute graphics requirements.
  • Ensuring delivered graphics match the exact customer requirements with respect to both aesthetics and functionality.
  • Building graphics packages with an eye toward modularity so swappable elements are easily changed
  • Creating commands using proprietary software to automate choreographic sequences
  • Developing expertise in multiple graphics authoring tools, including Pop Pro and the Adobe Creative Cloud suite
  • Testing, debugging, and verifying graphics
  • Participating in the full production lifecycle
  • Ensuring real-time data is presented accurately and instantly with the graphics package
  • Providing thorough and accurate written and verbal updates to project managers

What Do You Bring to SMT?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Media, Computer Science or a related field from an accredited institution
  • 1+ years of experience in a broadcast production and/or web development environment
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and organizational skills.
  • Desire to proactively learn new base products and graphics authoring technologies.
  • Deadline-driven and self-motivated approach with strong time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • A positive “can do” attitude when troubleshooting or problem solving and promote this attitude to peers and teammates.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Fundamental understanding of major sports.
  • Awareness to anticipate needs and proactively suggest improvements.
  • Ability to quickly learn new concepts, industry trends, and technologies.
