SUMMARY:


U.M. FDSP Associates is anon-profit affiliate of the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. U.M. FDSP Associates is the organization that provides patient carefocused staffing for the clinic operations so that facultyand students may provide patient care to the general public.

Under general supervision by a licensed dentist, performgeneral chairside and clinical functions related to patient dental care, aspermitted by the Maryland COMAR regulation.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs intra-oral rinsing and aspiration procedure.
  1. Retracts oral tissues including lips, cheeks, tongue, and flaps.
  1. Places and removes materials for isolation of the dentition, provided the material is not retained by the dentition.
  1. Checks for loose bands.
  1. Provides oral hygiene instructions to patients.
  1. Performs intra-oral photography.
  1. Exposes and process dental radiographs.
  1. Taking impressions for mouth guards or diagnostic casts.
  1. Orders, receives, and maintains inventory of clinical supplies and equipment.
  1. Cleans and maintains clinic equipment. Cleans up disposable supplies after a procedure.
  1. May enter data or schedule follow-ups as needed.
  1. Performs infection control procedures. Set-up disposable barriers; uses proper handling techniques for sharps.
  1. Applying topical anesthesia.
  1. Curing using a halogen light.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); oneyears' related experience. Relatededucation may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

OTHER:

Employees in this job class must be CPR certified and areobligated to meet and maintain Maryland State requirements for dental radiography.

Required Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of the principles of dental assistingtheory, technique, and practice. Skill in procedures using sit-downfour-handed dentistry techniques. Skill in the use of dental instrumentsand equipment. Ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment.Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively orally andin writing.

ADDITIONALCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employeesin this job class may be required to receive immunization to prevent illnessdue to exposure to blood borne pathogens.
