The Main Responsibilities

Lumen’s Mass Markets Finance and Network Planning Organization is looking for a Planning Engineer Intern on our Mass Markets Network Planning team. The Intern is responsible for operations supporting the overall design, cost, and inventory of Lumen’s equipment by creating and supporting reliable networks that meet Lumen’s infrastructure and Product SLA targets.

Other responsibilities of intern will include:

• Assist in developing and defining strategy for the implementation of new facilities assuming the most feasible and economic means
• Assist in completing complex network designs and cost analysis for projects/sites in their assigned area
• Learn how to create network designs that encompass additions, rearrangements and removal to facilities as driven by customer contracts, capacity needs and/or network reliability enhancements
• Analyze the existing network to drive toward the most up to date and reliable network
• Partner with Engineering and Finance to ensure the overall budget targets are met
• Analyze local and wide area network systems including planning, designing, evaluating, selecting operating systems and protocol suite

What We Look For in a Candidate

Program eligibility is contingent on the candidate’s commitment to the entire 10-week program. No exceptions will be made.

Required qualifications

• Enrolled at a 4-year accredited college or university, rising junior or senior level education status at the start of the internship
• Graduating August 2025 – May 2027
• Preferred fields include but not limited to: Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Telecommunications
• Intern must be able to work 40 hours per week during the 10-week program (May 30 – August 8, 2025)

Proficiency and understanding of:

• SQL, software development/scripting and/or GIS spatial skills/experience is a plus but not required

Preferred qualifications

• Ability to solve complex design issues in a team environment
• Interaction design experience creating effective user interfaces
• Knowledge of modern design technologies and patterns, including responsive design
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Strong analytic, leadership and presentation skills required
• Able to complete project assignments within discipline on time and within budget

Compensation

Internship compensation ranges depend on each individual’s level of education, geographic location, and experience/qualifications aligned to the role.

Hourly Based Pay Range:
Min: $26.00/hour
Max: $43.00/hour

What to Expect Next

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

This position is eligible for either short-term incentives or sales compensation. Director and VP positions also are eligible for long-term incentive.
