Vice President of Finance – Boston, MA – BDC Strategy | Hedge Fund

A prominent Boston-based hedge fund with a specialized BDC investment strategy is currently seeking a Vice President of Finance to join its finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for finance professionals with a background in complex debt instruments and regulatory reporting, particularly within hedge funds, private equity, or public accounting firms.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in working with bank debt, bonds, and nuanced credit structures like PIK and OID. Prior exposure to SEC reporting, SOX compliance, and BDC-specific accounting practices is essential.

Key Details:

• Location: Boston, MA
• Schedule: Hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 remote)
• Compensation: Up to $200K base + bonus + competitive benefits

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee and review 10-K/10-Q financial statements and related workpapers from third-party administrators
• Lead the development and implementation of SOX controls for ICFR compliance
• Analyze and understand a range of complex debt investments within the portfolio
• Reconcile portfolio data across administrators and internal teams; perform BDC qualification testing
• Ensure accurate NAV, management/incentive fee, and accrual calculations using VPM
• Manage full month-end close and maintain parallel accounting books
• Monitor capital flows and distribution activities
• Conduct fee recalculations and assist with projections
• Coordinate annual audits and quarterly financial reviews with administrators and external auditors
• Support senior leadership with ad hoc analysis, internal reports, and strategic initiatives
• Liaise with tax and compliance teams to ensure proper income distribution and regulatory compliance
• Prepare Board and senior management meeting materials
• Serve as a cross-functional partner with various internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications:

• CPA or active progress toward certification strongly preferred
• 8–12 years of relevant experience
• Public accounting foundation, ideally with 3–4 years at a Big Four firm
• Deep understanding of SEC reporting standards, SOX, and BDC structures
• Familiarity with complex debt instruments and Level 3 assets
• Experience collaborating with third-party administrators and financial systems
• Strong command of GAAP, Reg S-X, and investment company accounting
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
