Texas Acute Care Surgery Posted Dec 20, 2024 Austin, TX Trauma Surgeon/Surgical Critical Care Start Date: Spring 2025 Required: Board Certified General Surgery Board Certified/Eligible Surgical Critical Care Job Description: Texas Acute Care Surgery (TACS) is growing and recruiting – we are looking for a full-time experienced Trauma Surgeon to join our established group of Board Certified Surgical Critical Care Trauma Surgeons in Austin, TX. Candidates must be Board Certified in General Surgery and Board Certified/Eligible in Surgical Critical Care. The hospital is a Level II Trauma Center in Austin and has one of the busiest Emergency Departments in Central Texas – over 5000 trauma patient contacts per year. Located just 5 miles from downtown Austin, this 368-bed acute care facility has a dedicated 10 bed Shock Trauma ICU, 10 bed IMC, trauma floor and a dedicated trauma OR with hybrid suite. TACS is dedicated to providing exemplary trauma and surgical critical care with commitment to high ethical standards, compassionate patient care, coordination of multidisciplinary teamwork, and community injury prevention leadership. Job Setting: ACS-verified Level II Trauma Center Collaborative Environment: Work alongside a multidisciplinary team of experts, including trauma nurses, anesthesiologists, radiologists, and other specialists, to deliver comprehensive and integrated trauma care. As a Trauma Surgeon, you will: Provide comprehensive care to trauma patients, from initial assessment and resuscitation to surgical intervention and post-operative management. Perform life-saving surgical procedures, including emergency laparotomy, thoracotomies, and orthopedic procedures. Collaborate with other specialists to ensure coordinated care, including consultations and transfers when necessary. Participate in trauma rounds, case conferences, and teaching activities to enhance the knowledge and skills of General Surgery residents, colleagues and other trainees. Engage in research, quality improvement initiatives, and protocol development to advance trauma care. Qualifications: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution. Successful completion of an accredited residency program in General Surgery. Unrestricted and active board certification in General Surgery. Board certified/board eligible trauma/surgical critical care surgeon with extensive trauma experience preferred. Licensed in the state of Texas or ability to obtain. Surgical Critical Care Fellowship required. Proven proficiency in performing trauma surgical procedures, including complex and life-saving interventions. Strong clinical judgment and the ability to make quick decisions in high-pressure situations. Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary team. Dedication to ongoing professional development and staying up-to-date with the latest advances in trauma surgery. Familiarity with trauma protocols, guidelines, and evidence-based practices. Schedule: Full time Rotational shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. On-call duties as per schedule, ensuring immediate availability for trauma cases.
