General Statement of Duties
This position will support GED program administration, state testing implementation, and special education needs for the James River Juvenile Detention Center and other State Operated Programs. This employee designs and implements instruction for students with disabilities in Henrico County Schools. The incumbent is responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating individual educational programs for students based on individual student needs and the goals and objectives of the Henrico County School Board and administration.
Essential Duties
- Support the needs of incarcerated students
- Prepare student for GED assessment
- Assess student in accordance with GED criteria
- Provided support student with general studies and core content education
- Communicates with parents, students, outside agencies and other professionals.
- Develops IEPs for students that comply with HCPS and VaDOE regulations and guidelines
- Maintains student caseload in regard to compliance with IEP development and three-year re-evaluations, communication and consultation with other teachers and related service providers (e.g., student accommodations, SOL testing information)
- Gathers ongoing instructional and behavioral data as needed
- Assesses student progress and reports to parents, at minimum, through quarterly IEP progress reports
- Requisitions material and equipment and performs other clerical tasks required
- Implements instruction and behavior management
- Facilitates IEP meetings for caseload students using established HCPS meeting protocol
- Functions as a member of a professional team
- Carries out transition activities with parents and other professionals
- Uses IEP software
- Uses a virtual platform to deliver lesson plans, as needed
- Performs other duties, as assigned
- Regular attendance is required
Minimum Qualifications
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently and 25 to 50 pounds occasionally, and may assist, move, or restrain students when required to intervene in student safety issues. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, lift, walk, stand, and hear.
Demonstrates accurate knowledge of evidence-based teaching practices (reinforcement, prompting, visual schedules, antecedent based intervention, etc.). Demonstrates accurate knowledge of the learning and behavioral characteristics of the disabilities of the students with whom they work. Demonstrates understanding of functions of behavior and is knowledgeable of interventions matched to each. Experience with a variety of evidence-based instructional practices as well as data collection and its utilization.Knowledge of special education laws, policies and practices. Proficient with Microsoft and/or Google Suite and other related educational software.
Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in special education.Master's degree and prior experience with high school content is preferred.
Additional Information
This is a part-time 11-month position working 3.75 hours per day, 213 days per year.The minimum hourly rate with a bachelor's degree is $31.83 or with a master's is $33.36.
