Job Purpose The purpose of the Senior Cloud Engineer (SCE) is to lead AHM IT automation efforts to improve outcomes, operations and availability of infrastructure, applications, and services. SCE is pivotal role who is responsible for availability, latency, performance, efficiency, change management, monitoring, emergency response, and capacity planning for applications and Infrastructure. SCE focuses on platform (debugging automated tasks for the infrastructure, identifying failure patterns, conducting performance and resiliency testing) or application (troubleshooting minor incidents, engaging with tools and operations teams to address incidents, developing automation tools, and conducting app stability testing). Within the Cloud Center of Excellence, this role will have two major responsibilities: Build and Deliver Platform Engineering / SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) Foundations - Building, implementing, and managing application automation via Platform Eng/SRE foundations such as assets and code. Coaching and Assets for Platform Eng / SRE - Applying platform and application automation assets and code to business use cases by organizing and facilitating Cloud Center of Excellence-backed pilots Additionally, This role serves as a bridge between Cloud application development teams and operations teams to ensure that new features and services are designed and deployed in a way that meets the reliability and performance goals of the AHM IT. Key Accountabilities Proactive and Forward thinking Define standard topologies, environment architectures, and automation for improving the entire service lifecycle — from inception and design, through deployment, operation, maintenance, and sunset based on established application and platform stack in the Cloud. (Build and Deliver Platform Eng / SRE Foundations) Apply proactive measures such as capacity planning, performance tuning and implementing Infrastructure as a code. Additionally, this role will work closely with development teams to ensure that new features and services are designed and deployed in a way that meets the reliability and performance goals of the organization. Define Platform Eng/SRE reference architectures, processes, and tools and/or build software to help operations and support teams. Building and supporting a reliable application suite for the environment to meet the development and maintenance requirements of systems/platforms. Coach and Evangelize Document and disseminate knowledge and best practices by developing blueprints and requirements for Cloud Platform Eng/SRE Evangelization of Platform Eng/SRE practices by providing guidance and best practices. Propose and develop Platform Eng/SRE projects that can be executed as Quick Wins based on application team’s needs Develop training to scale best practices Collaborate and improve Collaborate with applicable teams to define SLIs, SLOs and SLAs and track key metrics Continuous identification of opportunities for efficiencies in the operations through Automation, process streamlining etc. Consult with external leading Cloud providers to evaluate and recommend emerging Platform Eng/SRE technologies for cloud computing. Workstyle Hybrid option: 1 to 2 days per workweek at the local Honda office. Fully remote option: May be possible for the right candidate. Must be physically based within United States. #LI-Hybrid #LI-Remote Qualifications, Experience, and Skills Education: A BS-level degree in Computer Science, Electronics / Electrical Engineering, Information Systems and/or equivalent industry experience. Key qualifying skills: 12 or more years of relevant experience working on Cloud Platforms with a focus on Platform Eng / SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) for sizeable organization, additional experience in consulting and coaching is a plus. Hands-on experience in IT Infrastructure and Applications management for mid-large size customer environment in the Cloud. Experience in Cloud services related to build, provision, and deployment Experience in OpenShift or Kubernetes container platforms. Experience of setting up Automation in various stages of IT infra and applications management Good knowledge of development languages and Automation Development Life Cycle. Hands-on experience in configuration management IaC Cloud tools (Terraform, Chef, Puppet, Ansible). Knowledge of Observability solutions like AWS Cloud watch, Azure Cloud Monitor, Google stack driver and also 3rd party Cloud solutions like Promotheus, Dynatrace, Appdynamics, Datadog etc. Experience and knowledge about Cloud capacity management, availability management and performance management aspects. Good working knowledge about various public Clouds and architecture. Experience of operating Business critical applications within defined service levels in the cloud. Other job-specific skills: Good Knowledge of Agile and lean Methodology. Good working knowledge in ITIL processes enabled operations. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
