OVERVIEW :

The Senior Prevention Education Specialist is responsible for assisting with overseeing and performing administrative functions related to the Prevention Education Services department and coordinating engagement with community-based programs. In addition, the Senior Specialist delivers direct service in the form of providing youth and adult planned duplication sessions, multi-session, psycho-educational groups, restorative practices, training and groups regarding the prevention and/or use of alcohol and drugs.

This is an 11-month position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND EXAMPLES OF DUTIES :

• Assists in the orientation, and training of Prevention Education Services staff
• Coordinates scheduling of programming in designated community-based sites
• Maintains accurate and timely records per funder and agency requirements
• Assists with the scheduling of agency staff training and development program, as needed
• Supports Community-Based Programs at Bridge to Peace
• Work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the Bridge to Peace and community partners
• Supports CFY Summer Programming
• Coordinates Teen Court Sessions
• Coordinates Prevention Education Services in Correctional Facilities

EMPLOYMENT GUIDELINES :

• Basic knowledge of learning theories and various techniques and methods used in group work and training
• Proven platform skills and ability to facilitate experiential groups
• Knowledge of adolescent development and drug and alcohol prevention-related issues
• Understanding of effective education
• Ability to research and design prevention services curricula
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with youth, within the unit, the agency, and with collaborating agencies and schools
• Knowledge of local community services
• Sensitivity to cultural issues and needs of youth from diverse backgrounds
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work evenings and on weekends when necessary or scheduled
• Must have access to a vehicle and telephone and possess a valid New York State Driver's License

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

Candidates must be able to be autonomously mobile in providing prevention services in numerous community settings: on-site services at The Center House and Center Counseling Units, through city and suburban schools, and other community locations throughout the County.

QUALIFICATIONS :

One to three years of directly related experience with proven platform skills and the ability to facilitate experiential groups. A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in an Education or Human Service related field. Supervisory experience preferred.

Note: A Master's Degree, CPP/ICPS/CASAC, advanced training and/or certifications in professional areas directly related to the skills required is preferred. If candidates do not possess all suggested certifications, expectations are that active pursuit of these certifications will occur at the time of employment.
