Job Summary

The GSE (Ground Support Equipment) Mechanic Helper supports the maintenance, operation, and servicing of various motorized and non-motorized ground support equipment. This role is hands-on, outdoor, and requires mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced airport environment. 


The expected pay rate is $28/hr. Full-time employees are offered a range of health and wellness benefits as well as 401(k) with company match paid vacation time, sick time, and company paid holidays. 

 

Your activities

  • Operate and drive all types of ground support equipment (GSE), including both motorized and non-motorized units. 
  • Assist in performing preventive maintenance on GSE in accordance with established schedules and Fueling ATA guidelines. 
  • Support all GSE operations as required, under the direction of senior technicians or shop leads.
  • Aid in the removal of malfunctioning equipment from service.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records in compliance with airline, airport, federal, provincial, and municipal regulations, including ATA and SP requirements.
  • Follow all applicable safety, environmental, and security regulations, including those set out by WCB, EPA, WHMIS, airport authorities, and SP management.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Keep the GSE shop and related work areas clean, organized, and in serviceable condition, report deficiencies to management.
  • Fuel equipment as needed, observing all safety and environmental procedures.
  • Communicate professionally with management, customers, and staff as required.
  • Be proactive and self-directed, reporting to the shop leads daily.
  • Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn hydraulic and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.
  • Basic computer and organizational skills.
  • Strong commitment to safety and adherence to guidelines.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment. 

Your profile 

  • Valid driver's license
  • Trade school training and or a mechanical background preferred.
  • Good oral and verbal communication skills
  • Good computer skills.
  • Willing to clean and maintain a safe workshop.
  • Willing to travel when necessary for training or to assist other SP stations with GSE needs as required
