Safety Managers are responsible for supporting, enforcing, and overseeing the general health and safety policies of “D” Construction. This position ensures all workplaces and employees to be in compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations. 

Duties and Responsibilities

·        Conduct regular safety inspections and audits by visiting all jobsites to identify and mitigate hazards.

·        Monitor compliance with safety standards and ensure all personnel are aware of and adhere to company and OSHA policies.

·        Coordinate with project managers, supervisors, foremen, and craft workers to address and resolve safety concerns.

·        Maintain accurate safety records, including inspection reports, training logs, and incident documentation.

·        Prepare, coordinate, and conduct safety training programs/classes on safe work practices and applicable OSHA regulations.

·        Stays well-informed of industry trends and regulations, maintain certifications, and seek continuous avenues for growth and improvement.

·        Establish and maintain positive relationships with project superintendents, contractors, and field personnel in order to be a safety motivator to ensure safety remains an active part of the work and culture.

·        Track and monitor certification and training expirations and recertification requirements.

·        Ensure all PPE is available, in good condition, and used properly.

·        Other duties are assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

·        Safety certification is desired, such as, Safety Professional Certification (CSP), ASP, CIH, CHST, OHST, OSHA Certifications or MSHA Certifications, plus 3+ years of experience in a similar position or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

·        OSHA 500 Trainer Certification is preferred.

·        Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail – ability to maintain organized records of all safety related activities.

·        Strong communication skills – the ability to listen and communicate both written and verbally to give and take feedback

·        Solid understanding of OSHA and industry specific regulations.

·        Proficiency in Microsoft Suite software.

·        Professional attitude and appearance.

·        General knowledge of the construction industry.

·        Ability to conduct and present training presentations and classes.

·        Demonstrate a positive, proactive attitude to help motivate, coach, and inspire employee compliance with safety policies and practices.

·        Able to adapt quickly, in a self-confident manner, while managing critical projects simultaneously.

·        Multitasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

·        May be required to travel occasionally.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Primarily be on-site at construction locations. Otherwise, office work at the “D” Construction main office location.

A Safety Manager may be required to work overtime, including nights or weekends as defined by the needs of the department or project. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk, and listen. The employee is also frequently required to walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift and carry up to 50lbs at a time.

A valid drivers license with a good driving record is required. A safety manager is required to drive daily between multiple jobsites.

Exposure to varying weather conditions and construction site environments. (Including rough/uneven ground conditions, slopes, noise, dust, ladders, extreme weather, and heights.)
