Title : Researcher

Position Type: Contract, Full-time; 6-7 months, may determine extension

Location: On-Site and Field, in-person

Pay Range: $35-$40hr

The Researcher will support Centro Cultural Mexicano, a 501(c)3 direct-service non-profit organization, in our work with the Washington State Student Achievement Council that is focused on identifying barriers to post-secondary educational attainment amongst Latino and Spanish-speaking communities in the Puget Sound region - including Pierce, King, and Snohomish counties. This includes the opportunity to connect with the teams at Community Based Organizations in these three counties, attend their direct-service events, and work with Centro Cultural Mexicano and our partners to survey community members in person in order to collect data.

Join us to develop a bilingual survey, analyze trends in the data, and contribute to drive effective outcomes and policy recommendations that will support our legislators in Olympia as they seek to best serve students in Washington State. The Researcher will be integral in the initial development of the survey. The researcher will also gather and integrate existing research and data while structuring the survey, draft documentation, conduct analysis through data learning, produce data discoveries, and deliver status updates. 

Survey Design and Planning 

  • Determine and specify details of survey projects, including sources of information, procedures to be used, and the design of survey instruments and materials
  • Plan and design surveys and develop appropriate survey methods and
  • Conduct background research on survey topics
  • Support, plan, and coordinate operations for single or multiple surveys.
  • Test their surveys to make sure that people will understand the questions
  • Ensure survey is culturally and linguistically relevant for the target population (Hispanic/Latino and Spanish Speakers in the Puget Sound area)

Survey Implementation and Data Collection

  • Conduct surveys and collect data, using methods such as interviews, questionnaires, focus groups, literature reviews, as appropriate.
  • Support, plan, and coordinate operations alongside our team to conduct surveys at community events
  • Account for and solve problems caused by non-respondents or other sampling issues
  • Collaborate with Centro Cultural Mexicano project team in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of surveys.

Survey Analysis and Evaluation:

  • Analyze data from surveys using statistical software.
  • Summarize survey data using tables, graphs, and fact sheets
  • Evaluate surveys, methods, and performance to improve future surveys
  • Produce documentation of the questionnaire development process, data collection methods, sampling designs, and decisions related to sample statistical weighting.
  • Ensure data is structured flexibly and is able to be evaluated using statistical data visualization software such as Tableau or PowerBI.

Reporting

  • Monitor and evaluate survey progress and performance, using sample disposition reports and response rate calculations.
  • Prepare and present summaries and analyses of survey data, including tables, graphs, and fact sheets that describe survey techniques and results.
  • Review, classify, and record survey data in preparation for computer analysis.

Training 

  • Document training instructions to be used by assistant survey interviewers that may be available
  • Train assistant survey staff to administer survey.
  • Direct and review the work of staff members, including survey support staff and interviewers who gather survey data.

Requirements:

  • Must currently reside in the Puget Sound region of Washington state.
  • Native Spanish speaker with excellent communication skills (bilingual) in English and Spanish.
  • Legal to work in US without sponsorship
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance and own transportation (not public) as local travel (county regional) is required.
  • Masters Degree or PhD in related field
  • One or more years of relevant research experience and research project leadership.
