Navarro Pecan Company is searching for a QA Manager in Corsicana, TX. Oversight and direction of all QC Laboratory Technicians and QC Laboratory functions. QA Manager is responsible for implementing best practices for food safety and quality procedures and meeting all regulatory, customer and company requirements. The QA Manager will initially report to the President of the company.  The QA Manager will work collaboratively with SQF Practitioner and QC Coordinator.

Navarro is a privately held company and has been in business since 1977. Navarro has been a leading manufacturer of shelled pecans in North America and has recently undergone a major capital expansion to transform our manufacturing process into the most modern, automated operation we are aware of in the pecan industry.  Navarro supplies into nearly every aspect of the pecan market, but is one of the largest global nut suppliers to the bakery, snack, ice cream, confectionary and cereal industry markets.  Navarro has implemented and maintained SQF Certification for Food Safety and Quality since 2011.

What you'll do:

• Manage QC Laboratory and QC Laboratory Technicians, including product quality testing and external laboratory testing with 3rd party laboratory
• Experience managing quality control employees is a plus
• Responsible for verifying Certificates of Analysis prior to shipment per customer specifications and company specifications
• Stay informed on changes to the SQF code and food legislation laws
• Lead monthly internal audits of SQF programs and systems and evaluate audit findings to implement corrective and preventative actions
• Provide continuous improvements to manufacturing, food safety and quality systems
• Prepare for and participate in Annual SQF Audits, customer audits and any regulatory audits, as well as corrective follow-up actions
• Maintain SQF food safety and quality initiatives
• Responsible for and assist with documentation and maintenance of the Food Safety and Quality Systems including procedures, verify records, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Preventative Controls / Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (PC / HACCP), Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP)
• Assist in customer questionnaires and forms on Food Safety and Quality. Experience with customer document management systems, such as TraceGains, Repositrak, ICIX and etc. is a plus
• Partner with SQF Practitioner to conduct monthly quality meetings and quarterly food safety meetings
• Apply continuous improvement tools (SPC Lean Six Sigma) to drive product consistency and reduce waste

Qualifications

What you'll need:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry or another relevant technical field is preferred
• 5+ years relevant experience in Quality Assurance in food processing/manufacturing industry
• Trained and strong understanding in HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual)
• Trained in Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standard, such as SQF or BRC, SQF preferred as the company is SQF Food Safety and Quality Certified
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and capacity to multitask efficiently
• Bilingual in Spanish/English is a plus
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills (both oral and written)
• Ability to work collaboratively across departmental boundaries
• Detail oriented take initiative and ability to work with a sense of urgency in a fast paced environment
• Microsoft Office Skill Sets, Statistical programs is a plus
• Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience is a plus
• Position will be required to work some weekends and some overtime
