The Mectizan Donation Program oversees Merck & Co., Inc.s donation of Mectizan for the elimination of two parasitic diseases, river blindness (onchocerciasis) and lymphatic filariasis. MDP supports national ministries of health and governmental and nongovernmental organizations by managing the allocation and safe and effective distribution of the Mectizan. MDP works with partners including Merck, GSK, endemic countries, the World Health Organization (WHO), non-governmental organizations, and others to achieve the river blindness and lymphatic filariasis elimination goals established by WHO.
