Job Description

Navy Facilities Engineering Systems Command Southwest (NAVFAC SW) is looking for a Land Surveyor (LS) to join our Cadastral Team within the Real Estate Division. The LS reports directly to the Cadastral Manager and will be responsible for examining and verifying real property acquisition and easement documents to ensure there are no discrepancies or issues that could affect Navy real property ownership. This role requires an understanding of land surveying, real estate laws, land title, and the ability to work closely with clients, cartographers, realty specialists, and other land surveyors. The successful LS candidate will have a background in land surveying, mapping, real estate, title examination, and will be committed to providing exceptional service to our clients. Responsibilities for this role include:

  • Serve as a Land Surveyor and subject matter expert for in-house survey and mapping projects in support of the Real Estate Division installations.
  • Perform in-depth searches of legal records, survey records, civil cases, state files and land titles to obtain information about Navy and Marine Corps installation boundaries and federal legislative jurisdiction.
  • Review, prepare and oversee preparation of maps, plats, legal descriptions, and reports.
  • Review official land and water boundaries for deeds, leases, and other legal documents and provide expert witness testimony in a court of law.
  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D and ArcGIS Pro for preparation of maps and cartographic products for deployment to Navy Enterprise GIS.
  • Assist with statements of work and government cost estimate for contracted survey and mapping projects.

The ideal candidate must have the following experience:

  • Professional knowledge and experience in applying the concepts, principles, and techniques of land surveying, including underlying mathematics and physical science, in combination with a practical knowledge of land ownership and general real estate laws.
  • Professional knowledge of the laws, regulations, and standards applicable to surveying, mapping, photogrammetry, geodetic surveying, geodesy, remote sensing, cartography, geographic information systems, computer-aided mapping, aerial photo interpretation, and survey analysis adjustments.
  • Excellent analytical skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and efficiently.
  • Knowledge working with AutoCAD Civil 3D and ArcGIS Pro.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Professional Land Surveyor (PLS)/Professional Surveyor and Mapper (PSM) or equivalent, in a state, territory, or the District of Columbia
  • Must hold U.S. Citizenship
  • Aged 18 or older at time of hire
