Description Position Summary: Coordinates and delivers violence prevention curriculum to groups of 3rd-12th grade students in elementary, middle and high school students located in Dallas, Denton, and Collin counties; delivers sessions to other community based youth organizations, including associated presentations with teachers, staff and parents.
Key Responsibilities: - Provides crisis intervention for youth who have made outcries as victims of bullying, sexual and/or dating violence and refer to the appropriate services.
- Facilitates Be More Leadership groups for graduates of the Classroom Education program in schools requesting and approving the service; co-facilitating community-based Be More group meetings with other Be Project staff, including attending special events and awareness raising activities.
- Assists with curriculum development efforts, including developing new activities, designing new handouts/flyers, and updating and improving community presentations.
- Supports the programs social media activities by regularly posting on sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and monitors activities.
- Completes necessary administrative tasks such as statistical reports, timesheets, progress notes, etc.
- Develops and implements primary prevention strategies and activities consistent with current guidance from Centers for Disease Control, Texas Council on Family Violence, and Texas Association Against Sexual Assault.
- Coordinates efforts to engage the community in primary prevention strategies and activities.
- Conducts complementary strategies including community mobilization, coalition building, policy activities and social norms change.
- Submits accurate and timely performance reports capturing primary prevention activities.
Other Duties:
- Attends primary prevention training as necessary to stay up-to-date on primary prevention guidance; attends internal domestic violence trainings presented by the agency training department to keep abreast of current domestic violence laws, issues, trends, etc.
- Attends employee staff meetings and supervision meetings.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements: Bachelors Degree in Education, Social Sciences, Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, Child Development, or similar field and at least two (2) years of working experience in a related environment.
Bilingual Required. Must speak, read and write English/Spanish. Licenses and Certifications: Valid Texas Drivers License
Knowledge and Skills and Abilities: - Knowledge of bullying, sexual violence and other dating violence.
- Knowledge of the psychosocial needs of youth at various stages of development.
- Knowledge of various teaching techniques to engage youth and effectively deliver curriculum.
- Knowledge of MSWord, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
- Experience and ability to work with a diverse background of students.
- Skilled in facilitating educational curriculum/lessons with youth.
- Skilled in public speaking and presenting to youth and adult.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate the different schools and times the youth are available; ability to work some evenings and weekends.
- Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and written, in English and Spanish.
- Access to reliable transportation to travel throughout the DFW Metroplex area.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Mental and Physical Abilities: The employee must be physically and mentally able to safely perform the essential job functions with or without a reasonable accommodation without a direct threat of injury to the employee, co-workers, clients or donors.
These include: - Ability to work evening hours and facilitate group sessions at various locations in the Dallas Metroplex.
- Ability to drive to different locations in the Dallas Metroplex to facilitate group sessions and/or attend training or make educational presentations.
- Ability to tolerate prolonged periods of sitting as necessary to perform duties.
- Ability to walk, stand, lift and carry light objects (less than 25 lbs.) frequently.
Working Location: The Prevention Educator position's essential duties must be performed at a school and/or community settings (rec centers, juvenile justice, other agencies, etc.) or in the agency office.
Working Conditions: Duties are usually performed seated, which may be relieved by brief periods of standing or walking. Work may be performed, but is not limited to an office environment.
