KFF

KFF is the leading health policy organization in the U.S. As a one-of-a-kind information organization, we bring together substantial capabilities in policy research, polling, and journalism in one organization to meet the need for a trusted, independent source of information on national health issues—one with the scope and reach to be a counterweight to health care’s vested interests and a voice for people. We have five major program areas: policy analysis, polling, journalism, public health information campaigns, and health information and trust.

KFF is not a foundation and has no connection to Kaiser Permanente. Legally, we are a public charity (an endowed national nonprofit organization). We are headquartered in San Francisco with a building in Washington, DC, conference centers in both offices, and staff members in almost every state.

The Team

The KFF Women's Health Policy program focuses on providing timely analysis of health policies that shape women’s access to care and coverage throughout their lifespan.

Your Role

KFF is seeking a Policy Analyst to work with the Women’s Health Policy program to support our legal research projects related to the intersection of women’s health policy legislation, litigation, and access to care, with a focus on contraception and abortion access. Qualified applicants will demonstrate strong analytic, legal research, and writing skills, and a genuine interest in women’s health and reproductive care. Applicants should be enthusiastic about the work conducted by KFF and interested in joining a team dedicated to the unique operating style and mission of KFF.

What You’ll Do

  • Track and analyze developments in:
    • state and federal laws and their impact on abortion and contraceptive access, use, coverage, and health outcomes.
    • federal and state litigation regarding state abortion bans and restrictions, federal regulations, contraceptive access and other women’s health and reproductive health topics
  • Update and maintain KFF’s online trackers on:
    • developments in major state and federal litigation on abortion and contraceptive coverage and access
    • state policies affecting access to and coverage of reproductive and sexual health
  • Write and prepare fact sheets, policy briefs, presentations and other documents and prepare figures, tables, charts and other data visualizations to effectively communicate key findings.
  • Assist in responding to external inquiries from the media, policymakers, stakeholders, and others in the policy community.

Minimum Desired Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • J.D., master's degree in public health or public policy, or bachelor's degree with over 2 years legal or policy work experience;
  • Knowledge and prior experience with tracking and interpreting state and federal laws related to women’s health, Medicaid, health insurance coverage, and sexual and reproductive health.
  • Experience tracking complex litigation in federal and state courts capacity to develop, initiate and conduct work independently and efficiently on concurrent projects and balance multiple priorities.
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills including proven ability to analyze complex policy issues, summarize policy research, and effectively communicate in writing key issues to lay audiences.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work in a highly collaborative environment. Inquisitive, creative, productive, positive-minded, and results oriented.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S.

The preceding position description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed. It is not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities, and qualifications required of employees assigned to this job.

This full-time position will be based in KFF’s San Francisco headquarters or KFF’s Washington, DC office, located downtown near Metro Center. KFF is currently working a hybrid schedule and requires all staff to work in the office a minimum of two days a week.
