Carbon Solutions Group (CSG) develops digital infrastructure to support governmental energy programs; aggregates distributed energy resources; and provides technical expertise to legislators and regulators. CSG believes that properly structuring energy and environmental markets will lead to tangible advancements for U.S. infrastructure, economy, and climate.
CSG’s Policy Group is seeking a policy analyst to support legislative and regulatory initiatives at the both the state and federal levels. A successful applicant will be naturally enthusiastic for the nitty gritty of energy policy and political economy. The applicant must possess the diligence required to analyze granular regulatory detail as well as the breadth of vision required to identify macro-movements in energy markets. CSG actively operates in a variety of states throughout the U.S. As such, this role requires the ability to manage parallel research assignments.
CSG is a fast-paced environment that will require a high-level of organization. This role also has a steep learning curve. A successful policy analyst at CSG must be willing to commit to a deep dive into the nexus of energy, finance, and policy. Business experience and quantitative modeling skills are preferred but not required. Legal experience is also preferred but not required.
This role reports to the Director of Policy & Regulatory Affairs.
This role is remote, with potentially some limited travel required on an ad hoc basis. Individuals based in the following areas will receive special consideration: Illinois, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, Minnesota, or Washington D.C.
Responsibilities include:
Conduct research and analysis on U.S. federal and state-level energy and environmental markets (compliance and voluntary), with a secondary focus on international carbon markets and governance bodies. Due to the focus on compliance markets, a majority of research will focus on regulatory filings and legislation.
Support external-facing documentation such as briefs, proposals, position papers, analysis, and other policy-focused reports. This work may include drafting, fact checking, and researching.
Have sufficient design capabilities to create slide decks, presentations, and other collateral, e.g. PowerPoint, Keynote, Google Slides, etc.
Attend trade organization calls, virtual conferences, and other industry meetings on behalf of CSG.
