DUTIES: Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations to assess mental health conditions, medical history, and psychosocial factors.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, incorporating evidence-based practices and cultural sensitivity.
Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, ensuring safe and effective treatment tailored to patients' needs.
Provide counseling and psychoeducation to patients and families on mental health conditions, coping strategies, and available resources.
Facilitate referrals to social services, support groups, and community resources tailored to the unique needs of LGBTQ+ and underserved individuals.
Perform crisis intervention and suicide risk assessments to ensure patient safety and provide appropriate follow-up care.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including social workers, therapists, primary care providers, and case managers, to provide holistic care.
Advocate for patients' mental health needs, addressing barriers to access such as stigma, financial constraints, or systemic inequities.
Maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation of patient encounters, treatment progress, and medication management.
Stay informed about issues specific to LGBTQ+ communities, such as gender-affirming care, minority stress, and unique mental health challenges.
Lead support groups or workshops focused on mental health topics relevant to underserved or LGBTQ+ populations.
Participate in community outreach initiatives to promote mental health awareness and reduce stigma in underserved areas.
Continuously evaluate treatment effectiveness and adjust plans to optimize patient outcomes.
QUALIFICATIONS: Board certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) through the ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center).
State licensure to practice as a nurse practitioner.
DEA Registration: Authorization to prescribe controlled substances
Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a clinical psychiatric setting (may include inpatient, outpatient, or community health).
Experience working with underserved populations or LGBTQ+ individuals is highly preferred.
Knowledge or experience in trauma-informed care, substance use disorders, or crisis intervention is a plus.
Strong understanding of mental health conditions, psychopharmacology, and evidence-based treatment approaches.
Proficiency in conducting mental health assessments, developing treatment plans, and managing psychotropic medications.
Cultural competence and sensitivity, particularly regarding LGBTQ+ populations and underserved communities.
Excellent communication, counseling, and interpersonal skills to build trust and rapport with diverse patients.
Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and coordinate care across services.
Familiarity with community resources, social determinants of health, and barriers to care.
Flexibility and adaptability in working with patients from varying backgrounds and levels of mental health needs.
Continuing education in areas relevant to LGBTQ+ health, trauma-informed care, or social justice.
Knowledge of local, state, and federal guidelines regarding patient care and privacy (e.g., HIPAA).
Willingness to participate in community outreach or advocacy programs.
