Job Title:  Payroll Tax Consultant

Location: Roseville, MN  Only local residents of Minnesota and Western Wisconsin will have their applications considered.

Pay Rate: $30-$38/hr dependant on applicable experience.

We’re partnering with a well-established organization in the Roseville area that is seeking a Payroll Tax Consultant to support ongoing compliance efforts and bring expertise to their payroll function during a key transition period. This hybrid role is ideal for someone with strong multi-state payroll tax knowledge who thrives in a collaborative, detail-oriented environment.

The consultant will play a critical role in ensuring timely and accurate payroll tax filings, audit preparation, and supporting internal teams with tax-related questions and clean-up work.

Key Responsibilities:

• Analyze payroll tax notices by state and act as a liaison with federal and state agencies to ensure compliance with regulations
• Perform regular audits and reconciliations to identify and resolve compliance issues, prevent filing delays, and monitor penalties or notices
• Register employers for payroll taxes and provide expertise and guidance to internal payroll and HR teams on tax setup, compliance, and best practices
• Coordinate year-end processes to ensure accurate W-2s and other annual tax filings
• Assist with clean-up work related to historical filings or system transitions
• Reconcile federal and state withholding and unemployment taxes on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
• Identify and resolve discrepancies related to tax payments, filings, and employee tax data
• Partner with external vendors and government agencies to resolve tax issues and obtain updated filing information

Ideal Background:

• Strong knowledge of payroll tax regulations across multiple states
• 3–5+ years of experience in payroll tax or payroll compliance roles
• Experience supporting payroll audits and year-end tax reporting
• Familiarity with common payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Paychex, Workday, UKG, etc.)
• Detail-oriented and able to analyze and reconcile large sets of data
• Strong communication skills and ability to support internal teams across departments
• Availability to work on a hybrid schedule (partially onsite in Roseville, MN)
