The position requires a proficient pianist who has experience leading congregational singing, prepares and plays service music (preludes, offering, postludes, etc.) and who recruits additional musicians for ensemble playing for special services; who collaborates with the pastor to plan appropriate music based on themes of worship; who learns and implements the many features of the church's Yamaha Transacoustic piano, and who incorporates many genres of music in the worship service: sacred, secular, classical, contemporary, jazz, popular, folk, and traditional. In selecting music, h/she is sensitive to lyrics that reflect inclusivity and the theology of progressive Christians.
This position requires a weekly on-site commitment for Sunday services at 10:00 a.m. A further commitment to personal practice time is expected. Additional rehearsal time with special music will also be required as needed.
The position pays $200 per week.
New Vision Congregational Church is located in the Amelia Island area just northeast of Jacksonville, Florida. The church is a small, friendly congregation that meets in Yulee, Florida. Our sanctuary is located in a large room in the Springer Controls building. Our services are relatively casual of which music plays a big part. New Vision is an open and affirming congregation and is active in local mission work in feeding and caring for the homeless and disadvantaged.
