The ideal candidate will share the Colleges’ commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. This position is a “pool” position meaning that openings may or may not be currently available. The District maintains a “pool” of applications for positions which are needed on an ongoing basis at Cañada College, College of San Mateo, and Skyline College. Your application for this position will be kept current for a period of two years. Duties and Responsibilities Provide instruction in Medical Billing and Coding ICD -10-CM. Overall coding, including hospitals, ambulatory services, and clinical specialists. Implement skill building in medical billing and coding. Prepare class assignments and course work; grade student work; record and post grades in a timely fashion; report to the lead instructor as needed; consult with students during regularly scheduled office hours. Participate in team, department, and division meetings; assist in curriculum development and revision; perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreements, and general institutional needs. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a Bachelor’s degree AND two years of medical billing and coding experience OR an Associate degree AND six years of medical billing and coding experience OR the equivalent. Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Recent experience in medical billing and coding and/or concurrent employment in medical billing and coding. Ability to teach in those areas as assigned. Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of successful teaching techniques. Understanding of current medical billing and coding issues and trends. Commitment to supporting students enrolled in medical billing and coding. Ability to adapt teaching methodology to meet the needs of an ethnically and culturally diverse group of students.
