Medical coding is the transformation of healthcare diagnosis, procedures, medical services, and equipment into universal medical alphanumeric codes. The diagnoses and procedure codes are taken from medical record documentation, such as transcription of physician's notes, laboratory and radiologic results, etc. Medical coding professionals help ensure the codes are applied correctly during the medical billing process, which includes abstracting the information from documentation, assigning the appropriate codes, and creating a claim to be paid by insurance carriers. The coder shall provide experienced, competent, professionally credentialed personnel to perform coding and/or auditing activities. The contract coders must be credentialed and must have completed an accredited program for coding certification, an accredited registered health information administrator or registered health information technician program. Credentials and/or certifications must be kept current per certifying organization standards. A certified coder is someone credentialed by the: American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and includes Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) and Certified Coding Specialist - Physician (CCS-P). American Association of Procedural Coders (AAPC) as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Professional Coder-Hospital (CPC-H). The Coder shall assign current ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT-4 and HCPCS Level II codes based on medical record documentation of any of the following: Prescriptions, surgical episodes, inpatient facility and professional services, and outpatient care provided for Additionally Requirements: Must be able to pass National Agency Check and Background for clearance Must have computer and internet at home MUST MAINTAIN A 95% accuracy level.
