POSITION SUMMARY

The American Society of Hematology (ASH) Manager, Trainee Programs & Services is a key member of the Training Department management team and is responsible for managing existing programs and services while developing and implementing new programs and services designed to support pre-medical students, medical students, residents, fellows, pre- and post-docs, and program directors within the field of hematology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Job Duties:

  • Manages ASH’s development and execution of the Hematology In-Service Exam for fellows in hematology training programs in the US and around the globe.
    1. Manages the contractual agreement between ASH and the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) to produce and administer the Hematology In-Service Exam.
    2. Manage the Test Materials Development Committee (TDC) that develops and selects the questions for the Hematology In-Service Exam.
  • Manages the development and execution of the following programs:
    1. The ASH Hematology Review Series
    2. ASH Teaching Cases
  • Works with the Senior Manager of Training Programs to develop and execute Trainee Council initiatives and priorities
  • Works with the Senior Manager of Training Programs to develop and execute of the slate of trainee activities at the ASH annual meeting, including ASH-a-Palooza, Trainee Welcome Reception, Career-Development Lunch Sessions, Early Career Development Session, and Trainee Didactic Sessions.
  • Provides operational support to the Committee on Training, Trainee Council, as well as other relevant working groups and task forces by ensuring timely completion and dissemination of agendas and meeting minutes, ensuring adherence to appropriate governance structure and appointment processes, and developing and implementing plans to assist these groups in meeting their mandates.
  • Works with ASH’s Communications department to develop promotional and marketing materials related to training initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE SKILL REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree required in adult education or related field and a minimum of five years of experience managing education-related programs.
  • Association or medical society experience. Prior supervisory experience required.
  • Detail-oriented, with excellent organizational and follow-through skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Knowledge of learning principles, including needs assessment and evaluation.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Periodic travel required
