Position Overview:

Client is seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, maintain, and optimize its database systems. The DBA will play a critical role in supporting business operations and data-driven initiatives by ensuring the performance, integrity, and security of databases. This position is part of a larger Data Modernization Initiative (DMI) aimed at transforming siloed public health data systems into connected and sustainable infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install, configure, and upgrade database software (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
• Monitor and optimize database performance through indexing, schema design, and query optimization.
• Develop and maintain backup and recovery strategies; perform regular recovery tests.
• Enforce database security including user access, encryption, and auditing controls.
• Diagnose and resolve complex database issues related to performance, connectivity, and data integrity.
• Conduct regular maintenance, patching, space management, and monitoring.
• Implement high-availability solutions including replication and clustering.
• Perform capacity planning and monitor database growth and resource needs.
• Document database architecture, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
• Collaborate with developers, infrastructure teams, and other stakeholders.

Experience:

• Minimum of 8 years as a Database Administrator managing enterprise-grade databases in production environments.

Technical Skills:

• Proficient in DBMS technologies like SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL.
• Strong SQL and scripting skills (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash).
• Knowledge of backup/recovery tools and high-availability solutions.
• Familiarity with operating systems like Windows Server and Linux.
• Experience with database performance monitoring and tuning tools.
• Understanding of database security best practices.
