This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next
Faculty - Sociology who will teach courses in Sociology. Teaching responsibilities include time spent in the classroom, laboratory, tech-supported, or online courses and in immediate preparation for respective courses, maintaining and improving competence in subjects being taught.
Qualifications EDUCATION: Required: Master's Degree in Sociology or a Master's Degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Sociology.
Preferred: Doctorate Degree.
EXPERIENCE: Required: Two (2) years of experience teaching Sociology.
Preferred: College level experience teaching Sociology.
Job Duties & Responsibilities - Teach Sociology and/or Psychology classes.
- Maintain records such as class schedules, grades, and attendance.
- Perform teaching activities, including classroom instruction, directing projects, and assisting with student coursework, research and internships.
- Plan, develop and present organized classroom instructions and learning opportunities for students in accordance with approved course outlines.
- Teach day and/or evening courses as required.
- T each dual credit, off campus sites, branch campuses, in class or online.
- Develop curriculum.
- Prepare syllabus i.e., determine course content that is consistent with the catalogue description.
- Select instructional materials (textbooks) when needed
- Participate in faculty renewal and development programs.
- Learn and maintain proficiency with Amarillo College computer systems, Learning Management systems, multi-media, and distance learning requirements.
- Take part in professional and technical development in areas of deficient qualifications and responsible for staying current in related fields.
- Attend briefings on procedures, advising, registration, and general policy.
- Assist with registration.
- Participate in recruitment activities.
- Complete appropriate administrative paperwork and performance evaluations in a timely manner.
- Participate in department, division and college meetings as assigned or required.
- Attend faculty meetings, general assembly, and commencement.
- Participate in and complete performance assessments/evaluations as assigned.
- Serve on college committees as detailed in faculty handbook.
- Participate in faculty development.
- Perform additional related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities - In-depth knowledge of Sociology and/or Psychology principles, theories, and practices.
- Familiarity with curriculum design and instructional techniques specific to higher education.
- Understanding of effective classroom management strategies, including student engagement and discipline.
- Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas) and multimedia tools for online and hybrid course delivery.
- Strong ability to teach Sociology and/or Psychology subjects, both in-person and online, using diverse instructional methods.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively present material and interact with students and colleagues.
- Strong organizational and time management skills for managing course schedules, grading, and administrative paperwork.
- Ability to collaborate with faculty, administrators, and other stakeholders for curriculum development, committee work, and student advisement.
- Ability to teach a variety of student populations, including dual credit, off-campus, and online students, adjusting teaching methods as needed.
- Ability to engage and motivate students to enhance their academic experience and encourage research and internships.
- Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development to stay current in relevant fields and teaching methodologies.
- Ability to assess and address student learning challenges and provide academic support as needed.
- Dedication to participating in recruitment, registration, committee service, and faculty meetings, contributing to the broader college community.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time, and be able to move materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
Work Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)
Work Environment: This job may operate in a classroom, online, or tech supported setting. This role routinely uses standard classroom and office equipment such as microphones, audio/video-recorders, computers, overhead projectors, phones, copy machines, filing cabinets and fax machines.
