Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of editorial functions related to the production of printed materials by Business Horizons.
- Edits for content and proofreads material to be published by developing a clear, concise, and factually accurate copy while adhering to editorial standards.
- Makes necessary editorial, spelling, and grammar corrections according to appropriate style guides.
- Rewrites for clarity when necessary.
- Edits, creates, and designs tables, figures, and artwork for layout and final production of copy.
- Reports directly to the Managing Editor but will also be expected to liaise with Content Manager and Assistant Managing Editor to ensure all editorial work is completed to deadline and Business Horizons standards.
General Responsibilities
- Reviews written content for various communications needs, audiences, and publication formats.
- Under supervision, corrects basic and progressively more complex grammar, spelling, punctuation, formatting, and syntax errors and performs edits that improve overall writing quality of communications.
- Evaluates submissions from writers to ensure they meet requirements for specific publications, including content, length, brand guidelines, and deadline specifications.
- Regularly consults with writers, printers, faculty, staff, and/or other stakeholders to ensure adherence to writing and publications deadlines.
- May draft routine communications to be reviewed and approved by supervisor.
- May audit writing and/or communications for adherence to brand guidelines, compile reports to analyze written communication output from the unit, and/or create and execute an editorial calendar.
- May provide guidance to other Writing/Editing Assistants; may make process recommendations to supervisor.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education. EDUCATION
Required - High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
Required WORK EXPERIENCE
- 4 years in relevant field

- Effective writing and editing skills; ability to assess the appropriate level of edits needed within and across articles
- Knowledge of business-related terminology and concepts/frameworks

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work such as long periods of sitting and concentration, and periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
