Director, Corporate Communications

Growing attention to the obesity and diabetes epidemics, coupled with the popularity of weight loss drugs, has accelerated demand for Virta’s nutrition-first approach. Off the backs of a record-setting year, we’re looking for an experienced and strategic Corporate Communications Director to tell the story of Virta’s business success, targeting both traditional media and upstart but influential individuals.

This high-impact role will report into Virta’s VP & Head of Communications and work closely with the Executive Team and leaders across the organization to build an impactful and compelling narrative that will position Virta as a dynamic, growing leader in the digital health space. This role is ideal for a communications leader passionate about creating new storytelling frameworks in a fragmented media landscape, sifting through data to identify interesting and newsworthy trends, and building executive thought leadership strategies. 

Responsibilities

  • Media Relations: Aggressively and proactively cultivate relationships with media outlets and reporters (both traditional and non traditional) to increase Virta’s visibility and ensure consistent, positive coverage in influential spaces.

  • Business Storytelling: Lead efforts to shape and tell Virta’s business story in a way that resonates with media, investors, potential partners, and the broader public. Emphasize Virta’s growth, trajectory, and strategic market positioning, highlighting the company’s transformational impact.

  • Growth Narrative: Drive a compelling growth narrative that supports the company's positioning for long-term success, effectively communicating Virta's value proposition, market reach, and differentiation amongst competitors.

  • Data Storytelling Program: Build and oversee Virta’s data program, ensuring data-driven insights are integral to the company’s communications. Collaborate across functions to turn data points into compelling stories that highlight Virta’s impact, clinical outcomes, and market success.

  • Executive Thought Leadership: Develop and implement thought leadership strategies for Virta’s executive team that showcases the depth and expertise of senior leaders. Identify speaking engagements, media opportunities, podcasts, and other content formats to establish executives as leaders within digital health and broader business communities.

  • Content Development: Lead the creation of press releases, white papers, case studies, blog posts, and other content that effectively communicates Virta’s business narrative and achievements.

90 Day Plan

Within your first 90 days at Virta, we expect you will do the following:

  • Connect with and establish strong relationships across company

  • Get to know Virta’s treatment, outcomes, and data

  • Review Virta’s existing business media strategy and develop your perspective on the top reporters, newsletter or Substack authors, and podcast hosts to build relationships with

  • Become familiar with various business performance metrics and develop relevant positioning and storytelling strategies for amplification

  • Learn the key functions / teams across the organization and begin to identify potential spokespeople and assets to leverage

  • Jump in head-first (i.e. pitch media, partner with our agency and consultants to iterate on ideas, etc.)  

Must-Haves

  • 12+ years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, or media relations, with a focus on business storytelling and thought leadership. High growth startup environment and public company experience preferred.

  • A passion for storytelling and a bias for action when developing new storytelling strategies and nurturing relationships

  • A proactive, curious nature that constantly seeks to learn and iterate, and never settles for “good enough”

  • Proven track record of developing data-driven storytelling programs that drive brand awareness and highlight business impact.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex information into clear and compelling messages.

  • Strong media relations skills with established relationships across traditional business, broadcast, podcast, and digital health landscape.

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to see the big picture while managing details in a fast-paced environment.

Virta has a location based compensation structure. Starting pay will be based on a number of factors and commensurate with qualifications & experience. For this role, the compensation range is $165,000 - $195,000.  Information about Virta’s benefits is on our Careers page at: .
