Certified Medical Assistant (Part Time) - ECPC Interventional Pain Clinic

East Carolina Pain Consultants (ECPC) is a subsidiary of East Carolina Anesthesia Associates, the largest and most stable anesthesia private practice remaining in North Carolina. We have over 50 years of experience providing safe, innovative, and quality care to our patients in Pitt County. Our established pain clinic in Greenville is growing, and we are seeking a friendly, enthusiastic, and self-motivated, part-time certified medical assistant to join our dedicated team of providers. ECPC in Greenville, North Carolina has an opening for a part-time Certified Medical Assistant. Our Greenville ECPC clinic is the flagship for ECPC and is a subdivision of East Carolina Anesthesia Associates, North Carolina's largest anesthesia private practice. Providers at our ECPC clinics perform a variety of procedures to treat and manage acute and chronic pain. Our clinics are equipped with fluoroscopy suites to allow for direct on-site treatment of pain position. Our providers use a multi-modal approach to pain management. The position is for 32 hours a week and the ideal candidate will be available 1-2 Saturdays a month.

Overview

Job Summary

The Medical Assistant is a vital role to the pain clinic. The Medical Assistant will utilize both clinical and administrative tasks to help clinicians in the pain clinic. Daily responsibilities include patient registration, assisting the physician before/during/after procedures, in addition to various administrative tasks such as conducting prior authorizations and documenting medical information into the electronic medical records (EMR) system. The Medical Assistant must be attentive to patient needs and communicate any potential issues to staff. The Medical Assistant identifies patients’ needs, provides safe and professional care, and communicates any needs to the provider. The Assistant will have to demonstrate professionalism and tact during difficult patient situations. The Medical Assistant will:

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Independently perform a comprehensive patient intake by gathering the past medical

and surgical history, documenting the current presentation, pertinent medications, and

recent imaging.

  • Present the patient history to the provider.
  • Document the patient encounter in our EMR system.
  • Prepare relevant diagnostic imaging to be reviewed with the provider.
  • Complete medication prior authorizations, including appeals and denials.
  • Collect urine samples for drug screening and analyze the results to assess patient

compliance.

  • Collect pre-and post-procedural vitals for interventional treatments such as epidural

steroid injections, radiofrequency ablations, and joint injections.

  • Reduce the provider workload by performing tasks and anticipating their needs essential

to efficient patient care.

  • Return phone calls from patients, pharmacies, and insurance companies in a timely

manner to prevent delays in patient treatment.

  • Respond to incoming faxes.
  • Maintain a pleasant and cooperative demeanor while performing all duties.
  • Keep an open line of communication with co-workers and providers regarding patient needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required.
  • Medical Assistant Certification preferred, but will consider experience in lieu of certification.
  • Previous experience in a specialty medical office and EMR systems is preferred, but not required.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly, both in written and oral communication.
  • Ability to handle high patient volumes in a professional manner.
  • Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.

  • Work performed in an office environment.
  • Involves frequent contact with patients, physicians, and medical office staff.
  • Work may be stressful at times.
  • Interaction with others is frequent and often disruptive.
