The Bone Marrow Aspiration Technician performs a variety of clinical duties for the treatment of Bone Marrow Aspiration patients. Assists with the preparation of Bone Marrow Aspiration and or Biopsy samples (slide smears, clots, and touch preps). Provide services to the outpatient Bone marrow aspiration clinic, inpatient area, out of OR sedation area on a daily basis, and Ambulatory treatment area, and other areas on as needed basis.

KEY FUNCTIONS

· Opens rooms and assures readiness for daily clinics.

· Inventories supplies, forms and lab equipment.

· Inspects cleanliness of supply carts and research samples.

· Notifies housekeeping of biohazard waste as needed.

· Obtains daily computer printout of scheduled patients.

· Receives and verifies charts for accurate documentation.

· Transfers appropriate written documentation from patient's charts to computer printout daily.

· Escorts patients to procedure room and takes patient's history.

· Monitors patient for abnormal reactions.

· Assists in performing Bone Marrow Aspiration procedures as needed.

· Arranges for specimens to be picked up or delivered to the appropriate lab.

· Prepares room for next patient.

EDUCATION

Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE

Required: No experience.

Preferred: Some health care experience.
