Cabell Huntington Hospital is seeking a
full-time Bariatric Clinical Reviewer for the Bariatric Surgery Department.
The Clinical Reviewer will serve as the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Clinical Reviewer (MBSCR). The key responsibility is to collect and submit accurate, complete, and timely data into the American College of Surgeon (ACS) database (MBSAQIP) to maintain the Center of Excellence designation as determined by the guidelines of the ACS. This task is accomplished through high-quality data compilation, documentation, and entry of 100% of metabolic and bariatric procedures performed at the Bariatric Center into the MBSAQIP Data Registry Platform in a timely manner. This person will identify process improvement opportunities in the data collection process and will work closely with the Bariatric Program Manager, the members of the metabolic and bariatric surgery team as well as administration to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement through other special projects or initiatives that may be identified. Some clinical knowledge and understanding of patient care is required in order to collect appropriately the required data and to assist in identifying areas for quality improvement. Statistics and detailed reporting that are required for accreditation as a Bariatric Center of Excellence shall be maintained along with monthly chart audits that are required for The Joint Commission. The Clinical Reviewer will audit and validate data and report all pertinent information to the Bariatric Program Manager, Bariatric Medical Director and the Bariatric Clinical Coordinator.
This individual will successfully complete the initial MBSCR Online Training Program and will maintain annual certification as an MBSCR; will periodically participate in ongoing educational webinars, and/or attend professional development courses or seminars offered at various relevant annual meetings and compliance with data audits will be required. The Clinical Reviewer will serve as an educational resource on the MBSAQIP Data Registry Platform for internal and external audiences by assisting the Bariatric Clinical Coordinator in developing educational material and delivering presentations. This individual will also serve on the Metabolic and Bariatric Committee (MBC) for continuous quality improvement.
The Clinical Reviewer will be required to have a full understanding of the program process so they may assist pre-operative patients in completing the program requirements. This position will be able to cover the Insurance Coordinator when he/she is out for an extended period of time to ensure continuity of patient flow through the program. The Clinical Reviewer may assist the Insurance Coordinator with pre-certifications of testing and procedures and other duties as assigned.
On occasion, the Clinical Reviewer will be required to work flexible hours when assisting with patient educational seminars.
Education: - High School diploma or equivalent is required
- Junior College/Technical School is required
- Bachelor's degree is preferred
- Proficient in computer based programs (i.e. Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point, Access) and MBSAQIP database preferred, internet experience required
- CPR Certified is preferred
- RHIA, RHIT, LPN/LVN, RD, MA or equivalent certification is required
- MBSCR Certification within 30 days of hire is required
Experience: - Up to 1 Year Experience is Required
- 1 to 2 Years of Position-Related Experience is preferred
The

- Clinical chart review and abstraction experience
- Demonstrates knowledge of the various bariatric procedures the program offers
- Sufficient experience and/or training in a hospital setting, preferably in surgery department, surgery or medical clinic/setting, clinical
research or medical records
- Knowledge of medical terminology, basic anatomy, physiology, and disease process is required
- Database management and data entry experience preferred.
- Basic or intermediary statistical knowledge preferred
- Quality improvement or patient safety knowledge and experience preferred
- HIPAA regulations and standards knowledge preferred
- Ability to track health information through various sources such as medical records, surgery clinics, death index, direct patient
contact.
- Experience gathering information in a complex hospital system environment or other medical facility
- Demonstrate ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple tasks
