Residents Driving Change : Family and Community Networks

Education & Family Support

Families are the building blocks of a community, and children are its greatest legacy. Networks in The Village seek to support and strengthen both through a focus on education and connecting families to resources.

Education

The Diamond Neighborhoods are home to 20 schools serving nearly 28,000 students. Schools are integral resources to the long-term health and success of The Village at Market Creek. A collaboration of principals, teachers, parents, students, and community leaders are working with JCNI in a partnership called The Diamond Learning Community.

The collaborative represents eight schools. Together, they are building a support network that nurtures the unique talents of students, unleashes their unlimited potential to learn, values diverse cultures, and embraces families through a pilot program called Opening Doors. Opening Doors encourages culture of learning and directly supports the most disengaged students, their teachers, and families.

Connecting Families to Resources

The Family Enhancement Center grew from a network of parents and childcare providers into a more holistic approach to support families in The Village. Comprised of parents, foster parents, childcare providers, and kinship groups, the network helps build stronger families through education and training and by promoting excellence and growth among the Diamond’s childcare providers. The team connects families and providers to each other and the resources they need. Community events provide a venue for promoting literacy, building healthy relationships, and connecting educational support groups in the community.

As homes in The Village are built, each housing community will bring together a network of services and providers to build stronger families and provide educational support for children and youth. Plans for the first community, Northwest Village, include resources for childcare, tutoring, recreation, and family support.

We believe in the potential of residents to change their own neighborhoods.
