Residents Driving Change : Community Enterprise and Ownership : Market Creek Community Ventures

Where the World Meets

Where the World Meets multicultural gift shop is a doorway to opportunity for local micro-entrepreneurs.

The store combines for-profit operation with a non-profit capacity-building program. Participating vendors sell their goods through the store and have access to assistance that helps them grow their businesses, including business planning and development, marketing, merchandising, and inventory management.

Much of the store’s merchandise is selected by members of the International Outreach Team, a multicultural team of community residents representing seven of the community’s cultural groups. The appeal of the store’s unique range of authentic cultural merchandise has made Where the World Meets one of San Diego's most popular multicultural shopping destinations.

On the third Saturday of each month, the store expands into an International Marketplace offering one-of-a-kind cultural clothing, jewelry, art, food, and gifts.
