Residents Driving Change : Community Enterprise and Ownership : Market Creek Community Ventures

Writerz Shop

What began as a positive approach to preventing graffiti has grown into opportunities for graphic design, hiphop dance, disc jockeying, and an aerosol art business and training center. The Writerz Blok urban art and training program gave birth to a youth-run business named Writerz Shop.

Writerz Shop offers young people training in the fields of graphic design, muralism, and silkscreening. Youth at Writerz Shop also produce banners and T-shirts and create custom-designed signs and car wraps. Writerz Blok provides a means for youth to sell their work.

The business generates annual profits up to $20,000 which are recycled back into the Writerz Shop and Writerz Blok training programs. The youth-oriented, creative, and safe environment challenges youth to explore the possibilities for themselves, their peers, and their community.

We believe in the potential of residents to change their own neighborhoods.
