The Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation (JCNI) intends to apply to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for a Brownfields Cleanup grant by November 28, 2011. The project site address is 4970 and 5010 Market Street, 92114 located in the southeastern San Diego neighborhood of Chollas View. This is the future site for 150 affordable housing units, including rental and owner-occupied residences. The project will remediate soil contaminated by hazardous substances (lead) and petroleum hydrocarbons. Public notification of the proposed brownfield cleanup project was provided at a public meeting of the Coalition of Neighborhood Councils on October 24 and the project will be discussed and comments received and addressed at a Brownfields Area-wide Planning meeting at the Joe & Vi Jacobs Center on November 1st.
