Our Journey
Our work has taught us invaluable lessons. As we transitioned from a grantmaker to a non-profit strengthening organization to an active role as community partner, our focus both broadened and narrowed. From working through community-based organizations in widespread locations to working comprehensively in one community, we have learned much about the power of people and the opportunity of blight. Our place-based focus requires us to comprehensively address the underlying conditions of the community.
We encourage residents to speak out and influence change in their communities. They encourage us to reinvent ourselves to be more relevant to their needs. We try new approaches and change the way we work, forging new partnerships and tapping new resources along the way.
This journey is not a short-term initiative. We will remain neighbors and partners until capacity is built to sustain the hard work of our residents and partners. Our sustainability plan is built on a "sunset clause" that puts us out of business as residents take ownership and leadership.
